Ever notice how "specials" in the retail world are often items that begin with an over-inflated price tag? Then they are discounted to a semi-reasonable price and called a special!
...Like gowns that start off in some shops for $2,100 but then are "marked down" to $500! Why not just charge the $500 to begin with and stop doing the Kabuki Dance with pricing!
